Splittin' Wood and Takin' Names

One of the goals on my list this year was to get the wood splitting and stacking area more organized.  Mark it off the list!

Thanks to my wonderful hubby, I now have two double-sided wood stack holders.  And, thanks to my Smart Splitter, I have been a wood splitting fool lately.  A friend came over recently and said, "Wow, Nate's been busy."  I quickly informed her that I was the one who had split most of that wood.  That's right, little bitty me has split about 80% of the wood on the left-hand side.  I actually love doing it.  It's a great stress reliever after a tough day at work, not to mention the upper body workout.  Who woulda thunk it?

Of course, who needs a fire when it's 60+ degrees outside each day?

Happy homesteading,

Candace

  1. Your wood storage is lovely! So is the wood. I've never heard of a smart-splitter and immediately had to look it up! Now I'm wondering if I could talk Dan into one; he has certain manly ideas about how wood ought to be split. LOL

  2. Thanks, Leigh. I like for things to be very tidy and organized. It's the OCD in me coming out. I can't be productive in chaos. The Smart Splitter is ideal for me since I'm the one who splits most of the wood. I can't hit the broad side of a barn with an axe, so with this splitter, I can rest the "wedge" on the wood and set it with the weight. After that, I'm good to go. It is also great for weirdly shaped pieces of wood that would be hard to split otherwise. So far I've split logs up to 10" in diameter.

    1. Blackberry brambles: Of course, the credit goes to my husband. I may have been able to build something like this, but its durability and levelness would have been in question.
